Found for trade and profits

This colony was first found by the

Dutch and was called, New Netherland.

As a Dutch colony is was very

successful.

 A lot of trading was done

in this colony,because there are

many ports.

England saw how successful

this colony was and wanted it for

themselves.

They sent their warships to New Netherland and attacked until Peter Stuyvesant surrendered the colony to England.

King Charles the second gave the colony to his brother, the Duke of York. 

Economy:

   Referred to as a breadbasket colony because of all

   the crops grown. Including an abundance of wheat.

   Most farms were about 50-150 acres of land

   including the yard, house, barn, and fields.

Trade/Exports:

   They produced an abundance of wheat, corn,  

   livestock, iron ore, textiles, lumber, ships,

   and furs.

   They would ground the wheat into flour in the

   mills and then send it to England.

Geography:

   Lowlands and mountains.

   Fertile soil that is good for growing crops.

Climate:

   Warm summers and cold winters, but is still

   good for farming.

Celebrity/Important Residents:

   Adam Sandler, Theodore Roosevelt, and

   Michael Jordan.
